Burlington is opening new discount store in Sacramento area. Here’s when and where

Popular discount retail chain Burlington is expanding in the Sacramento area.

Burlington will open at 3601 Elkhorn Blvd. in North Highlands in the Watt Towne Center shopping center.

The North Highlands store will be the retailer’s sixth location in the capital region.

“We are thrilled to bring a new store to the North Highlands community, offering residents our everyday low prices on a wide assortment of brand-name merchandise for the entire family and home,” said Julia DePillis, assistant account executive for Carmichael Lynch, a public relations firm representing Burlington.

What is Burlington?

Burlington, formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory, started in 1924 as a wholesaler of coats, jackets and suits, according to the company’s website.

Burlington launched its first retail store in 1972 in Burlington, New Jersey.

More than 50 years later, the self-described “off-price retailer” said it operates more than a thousand stores in 40 U.S. states and Puerto Rico.

Where is new Sacramento-area store?

Burlington is moving into the former Big Lots space at Watt Towne Center.

The 146,895-square-foot shopping center is also home to Dollar Tree and DD’s Discounts stores. Watt Towne Center is owned JG Management, a Los Angeles-based commercial real estate firm with properties throughout California.

In 2024, Big Lots announced the closure of a total of nine locations in the Sacramento area.

When will new location open?

The store is slated to open in July, DePillis wrote in an email to The Sacramento Bee.

What’s for sale at Burlington?

According to its website, Burlington sells everything from women’s clothing, menswear and shoes to home decor and beauty products.

The chain also carries accessories including purses, handbags, earrings and necklaces.

The company said its buyers negotiate deals on name brands including Steve Madden, Guess and Calvin Klein.

Burlington stores are selling holiday-themed products ahead of Easter Sunday in April.
