Bicyclist dies after being struck by car on Fruitridge Road, Sacramento police say

A bicyclist was struck by a car and killed Tuesday evening, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Officers were called to the collision just after 7:45 p.m. near Fruitridge Road and Ethel Avenue, but the cyclist was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene, and alcohol or drugs did not appear to factor in the wreck, police said in the statement posted to social media. A section of Fruitridge Road was closed for several hours Tuesday night as Sacramento Police collision and crime scene investigators took over the incident.

The man has not yet been identified. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office was expected to release the man’s name once family had been notified.
