20 Sacramento-area organizations receive funds for hate-prevention efforts
Twenty Sacramento-area organizations and community groups will receive $4.3 million in state funds to guard themselves against hate-motivated attacks.
The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services said Monday it will grant the funds as part of a $76 million effort to shore up physical security for nonprofit organizations statewide that are targets of or at high risk for violence due to their ideologies, beliefs or missions.
The statewide total is the largest amount of money granted to date, according to OES.
The Sacramento LGBT Community Center, St. Peter and All Hallows Parish, Jackson Laboratory, Rock Church in Elk Grove, Twenty-Fourth Street Baptist Church, Congregation B’nai Israel, Daughters of Zion Enterpryz, Jewish Federation of the Sacramento Region, Masjid Annur Islamic Center and others will receive grants ranging from $114,500 to $250,000.
Overall, 347 organizations will receive funds via the state Nonprofit Security Grant Program, which provides funds to eligible nonprofits and is administered via Cal OES.
The funds are available from Dec. 1, 2024 through the end of 2026, and must be spent on activities like developing emergency plans, contracting security services, trainings, alert systems and equipment like reinforced doors and gates as well as screening and inspection systems.
California has granted nearly $229 million in state funds to 1,271 organizations since 2015.
