Chance of showers forecast

A low pressure system will bring a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the Sacramento area before 11a.m., according to the National Weather Service. The day will be mostly sunny, with a high near 90, the weather service predicts.

Concert series begins in Elk Grove

Nunchuck Taylor kicks off the Hot Summer Nights Concert series in Elk Grove. The band plays everything from rock standards to dance favorites and country music. The free concert, sponsored by the Cosumnes Community Services District, will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Laguna Town Hall, 3020 Renwick Ave.

Book sale at Watt Avenue library

Friends of the Arden-Dimick Library holds a community book sale from 1 to 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Arden-Dimick Library, 891 Watt Ave., Sacramento. More than 8,000 books will be offered at low prices. The sale will continue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

North Natomas farmers market debuts

Natomas farmers market grand opening event, sponsored by the city of Sacramento, is planned from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at North Natomas Regional Park,Via Ingoglia and New Market Drive. The event features food, a live band, beer garden, bike valet, face-painter and food trucks.

Things to do

  • The ninth annual Guns & Hoses: Wine, Brew & Food Festival takes place from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the Sacramento Marriott Rancho Cordova, 11211Point East Drive. The event supports the greater Sacramento fire departments and law enforcement.
  • Dive-in Movie Night features “Big Hero 6” at Cottage Pool, 3097 Cottage Way, Sacramento. Moviegoers can enjoy an evening swim, bring a picnic dinner, popcorn or purchase available concessions. Grass seating will be available.
