Woodland man facing murder charge months after toddler son’s death
A Woodland man has been charged with murder months after his 2-year-old son died at their home last August.
Woodland police detectives on Tuesday arrested Christian Jacobo, 22, on suspicion of murder and willful cruelty toward a child causing death, police officials said in a Friday news release. Jacobo pleaded not guilty to both charges at his arraignment in Yolo Superior Court on Friday, the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office said in an afternoon news release.
Woodland police said investigators opened an “extensive investigation” into the child’s death; their focus, officials said, was on trying to piece together what happened Aug. 26. Officers called to the 100 block of Lincoln Avenue that day found Jacobo’s son, who died as responders tried to revive him, Woodland police said in their statement.
Woodland detectives in the months since the toddler’s death unraveled what authorities Friday called a “complex homicide case,” leading to Jacobo’s arrest.
The department extended condolences to the child’s family in the statement.
“The loss of a child is never easy, and we cannot imagine the sadness that this has caused,” the department’s statement read. “We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and community members affected by this terrible loss.”
Jacobo is being held without bail in Yolo County custody. A bail hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday, with a preliminary examination hearing set for April 25.
Woodland police continue to ask anyone with information to contact authorities. The Woodland Police Department non-emergency line is 530-666-2411.
