Woman struck, killed by cars near Sacramento-area freeway onramp

Roadway fatality

A woman was struck and killed by vehicles early Friday near a Sacramento-area freeway onramp, the California Highway Patrol said.

Patrol officers received the call about 4:45 a.m. CHP investigators said a woman was walking on Calvine Road near the onramp to northbound Highway 99. She crossed into the path of a motorist driving west on Calvine when she was struck, according to officials at the patrol’s South Sacramento office.

A second motorist saw the first car backing up on Calvine then saw who was later discovered to be the woman in the roadway.

The motorist swerved to avoid the woman but struck her instead, the CHP said. The unidentified woman died. Alcohol did not factor in the collision. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the woman’s name pending notification of family members.
