Man dies of injuries in head-on crash that closed south Sacramento County road
A motorist died from his injuries at a hospital Thursday after colliding with a dump truck in south Sacramento County, authorities said.
The unidentified motorist was driving north on South Watt Avenue between Florin and Elder Creek roads about 6:40 a.m. when he attempted to pass traffic as the dump truck was traveling southbound, said officials with the California Highway Patrol’s South Sacramento office.
Drivers of both the car and truck tried to avoid colliding but crashed head-on, according to the CHP. The truck’s driver escaped injury. The car’s driver, identified as a 40-year-old man, was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Victor Levell Harmon or Sacramento.
The fatal wreck closed the section of South Watt from Florin to Elder Creek for several hours Thursday morning before the roadway was reopened to traffic about 9:30 a.m.
