Linda woman killed in head-on crash while passing traffic in Sutter County
A Linda woman was killed Sunday morning in a head-on collision in Sutter County after crossing into oncoming traffic to pass other vehicles, authorities said.
Brenda Pruitt, 60, was identified by the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office as the driver of a Chevrolet Aveo who died at the scene. The crash occurred around 9:50 a.m. a few miles north of Yuba City in the Berg area on Live Oak Boulevard, just south of Rednall Road, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Yuba-Sutter office.
CHP officers said Pruitt, a resident of Linda in Yuba County, had been driving northbound when she crossed the yellow line into the southbound lane in an attempt to pass slower traffic. Her vehicle struck a Toyota Prius head-on.
The driver of the Prius, identified by the CHP as a 51-year-old state worker from Yuba City, suffered major injuries and was taken to Adventist Memorial and Rideout hospital for treatment.
Authorities said the crash remains under investigation.
