Meadowview Certified Farmers Market is back for the season. Here’s when and where
The Meadowview Certified Farmers Market will reopen for the season Sunday at the Meadowview Light Rail Station in south Sacramento, bringing fresh produce, local goods and family-friendly activities to the neighborhood.
The weekly market will run Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine, through Oct. 26 at 3501 Meadowview Road, the city announced in a news release.
The weekly event is hosted by the nonprofit group Alchemist Community Development Corp., which will provide entertainment and family-friendly activities throughout the market’s seasonal run.
“The Meadowview Certified Farmers Market is more than a seasonal event, it’s a community space grounded in connection, food justice, and opportunities,” Sacramento City Councilmember Mai Vang, who represents the neighborhood, said in the release. “Access to fresh, healthy, and culturally relevant produce is essential to the well-being of our neighborhoods, and this market helps expand those opportunities for historically underserved areas in south Sacramento.”
The farmers market will include multiple vendors with a wide range of products including hot meals, handcrafted goods, farm foods such as eggs and an array of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables.
“We’re excited for the return of the farmers market,” Vang said. “When we support our local farmers and entrepreneurs, we activate our vacant lots, address food insecurity, and strengthen our local food system.”
The Meadowview Certified Farmers Market is a way to also support local small businesses and entrepreneurs. Alchemist CDC executive director Sam Greenlee called the event “a love letter to Meadowview.”
“We learned so much about what the community wants and needs from the Meadowview Certified Farmers Market last year and are excited to bring it back for the season with more vendors, a wider range of products, new family activities, and delicious local fruits and vegetables,” Greenlee said.
The event’s grand-reopening is expected to include free face painting activities, a MK Mobile Music DJ and live performances by Oak Park’s youth dance troupe, Confidence Is Everything, and the Fortune School Drumline.
One lucky attendee will win a free bicycle after entering a free drawing contest.
The Meadowview Certified Farmers Market accepts CalFresh or EBT payments and offers Market Match nutrition incentives, matching up to $15 of EBT benefits and SUN Bucks each week, the city said in a news release.
Sacramento Regional Transit will offer free rides from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday during the grand opening only.
Transit riders are encouraged to print or screenshot the city’s flyer and show it to the RT bus operator or the light rail ticket inspector.
