Sacramento-area doughnut shop is among top 10 in US, Yelp says. Where to go
Celebrating National Donut Day? A Sacramento-area bake shop serves up some of the sweetest treats in the nation, according to Yelp.
The popular review website recently released its 2025 list of the Top 50 Donut Shops in the U.S., ranking the best places for doughnuts.
“Donuts are more than just a sweet treat — they’re a beloved obsession for many,” Yelp said. “To find the best of the best, we turned to Yelp Elites, who’ve tasted their way through countless shops.”
Winners were selected based on reviews, ratings and “drool-worthy” photos from Yelp Elites who “tasted their way through countless shops,” Yelp said.
According to Yelp, those living in the Sacramento region don’t have to go far to find renowned doughnuts.
A Folsom doughnut shop was one of three California spots in the top 10, Yelp said.

What makes Folson bakery BJ Cinnamon a top spot for doughnuts?
Described as a small-town bakery with “a big heart,” BJ Cinnamon, 402 East Bidwell St. in Folsom, caught the attention of the Yelp Elite squad.
“Known for its legendary cinnamon rolls and melt-in-your-mouth donuts,” Yelp said. “The scent of sugar and spice wafts down the street, drawing in early risers and those with a sweet tooth.”
BJ Cinnamon’s menu features so-falled “regular donuts” such as doughnut holes and chocolate doughnuts for $2.25 each as well as “fancy donuts” including French cruller and jelly doughnuts for $2.70 each.
Other food options include breakfast sandwiches and cinnamon rolls.
Yelp reviewers Debra S. of Sacramento said she and her family journeyed to Folsom to try BJ Cinnamon and “it sure didn’t disappoint.”
“We got here a little before noon, and everything was still very fresh,” she said, praising the chocolate old-fashioned doughnut and chai latte she tried. “The service is quick and friendly. The shop is clean and comfortable. It was well worth our trip.”
“BJ Cinnamon is such a reliable spot for delicious donuts and cinnamon rolls,” Yelp reviewer Rachel K. of Sacramento wrote. “The owner and the rest of the staff are so nice ...”
BJ Cinnamon is open 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
Which other California bakeries made the list?
Two other California doughnut shops made Yelp’s top 10 list for 2025.
Kin Bakeshop, 199 South Turnpike Road, Unit 103, in Santa Barbara, is known for its Asian-style mochi and brioche doughnuts in unique flavors including mango sticky rice and Thai tea.
“From ube glaze to miso caramel, their rotating flavors are as thoughtful and vibrant as the community they serve,” Yelp said.
In addition to doughnuts, Kin Bakeshop’s menu features a variety of espresso and tea drinks, including matcha and hojicha lattes.
“I have not had a softer, chewier, tastier mochi donut anywhere,” Yelp reviewer Deanna S. of Los Angeles wrote.
“Their mochi donuts are always super soft and a bit chewy,” Yelp reviewer Danielle P. of Tracy wote. “Cinnamon Sugar is my go to, but their Black Sesame Jasmine was also delicious with the glaze being perfectly sweet and a bit nutty at the same time. (There’s a) great flavor ratio on their donuts.”
Munchkins Donuts Shop, 902 North Citrus Ave. in Covina, serves classic doughnuts such as maple bars as well as savory croissants and drinks.
“The scent of freshly glazed, warm doughnuts greets you at the door, promising a sweet start to your day,” Yelp said, calling the shop a “beloved neighborhood staple.”
“The donuts are always fresh, soft, and just the right amount of sweet,” Yelp reviewer Jessica L. of Mission Viego said. “The glaze is perfect, the cake donuts are rich and buttery, and don’t even get me started on the apple fritters ... absolute heaven!”
“The owners are very friendly and get to know your order by heart which is impressive given how many customers they get,” Yelp reviewer Manuel G. of Covina wrote.

How did Yelp come up with the list?
Yelp said it looked at businesses in the site’s doughnut category and then ranked them based on a variety of factors, including the volume of five-star reviews and reviews from members of the Yelp Elite Squad.
All businesses were marked as open on Yelp as of March 20, and all businesses on the list had passing health scores as that date.
