Two dead and four injured, including two children, in Northern California crash

Roadway fatality

Two people are dead and four more are seriously injured following a head-on crash in Yuba County on Friday afternoon, authorities said.

At about 3:15 p.m., the California Highway Patrol was notified of a crash with multiple vehicles on Highway 70 north of Boyer Road in unincorporated Yuba County between Yuba City and Oroville, according to a news release from CHP’s Yuba-Sutter office.

Emergency personnel located a Honda CRV and a Toyota Camry, both with major damage and multiple injured occupants, the release said. Personnel requested ground and air ambulances, and began performing life-saving measures.

The driver and a passenger of the Honda ultimately died from their injuries, while two children who were in the same car were seriously injured and taken to UC Davis Medical Center. The driver was a 41-year-old man from Roseville, who died at the scene, and the passenger who died was a 34-year-old woman from an unknown city, who was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The same vehicle contained a 4-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl, both from an unknown city, who are both seriously injured, according to the CHP release.

The other vehicle contained an 18-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, both from Brentwood, who are both seriously injured, the CHP said.

CHP’s preliminary investigation found the Toyota was driving southbound on Highway 70 when it lost control and crossed into the northbound lanes of traffic, where the Honda was traveling, the release said. Both vehicle had major front-end damage. It’s currently unknown whether impairment was a factor, according to the news release.

Highway 70 from Boyer Road to Ramirez Road was closed for about two and a half hours for the investigation and removal of the damaged vehicles, the release said. It has since reopened.

The names of the deceased man and woman have not yet been released.
