Woman spotted floating in American River pronounced dead

Drowning incident depicts emergency personnel at water canal

A woman seen Saturday floating down the American River was pulled from the water in Carmichael and later pronounced dead.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responders launched a “full water rescue response” upon arriving at the river where the woman, who was not identified, was seen floating downstream, authorities said.

Rescuers with the Sacramento County Parks Marine Division found the woman, pulled her aboard their vessel and began performing CPR, which was unsuccessful, authorities said.

The woman was taken to the Rossmoor Bar river access and treated by Metro Fire responders before being airlifted to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead, authorities said.
