Motorist killed in Hwy. 99 collision between semi-truck, Prius in Sacramento
A motorist died Thursday morning after a sedan collided with a semi-truck on southbound Highway 99 near Elkhorn Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at 8:28 a.m. when a blue Toyota Prius went underneath the trailer of a big rig, CHP’s incident log showed. The crash happened just at the Sacramento city limits near the Greenbriar neighborhood of North Natomas.
Sacramento Fire Department personnel responded and extricated one person from a vehicle, according to Capt. Justin Sylvia, a spokesperson for the department.
Officer Justin Fetterly, a spokesperson for the CHP’s North Sacramento office, confirmed the driver of the Prius was pronounced dead at the scene and said an investigation into the crash was ongoing.
The right lane of southbound Highway 99 was closed for over two hours due to the crash, as an investigation and cleanup of the crash continued.
The closed lane was reopened just after 11 a.m., Caltrans District 3 said in a social media post.
