Looking for a career change in Sacramento County?

The state of California is seeking applicants for full-time positions in fields including legal work, staff services and mental health resources.

State jobs are known for offering competitive benefits and enrollment in the nation’s largest pension plan.

Although some positions require employees to work in the office, others offer the option of working remotely from home with hybrid schedules.

Each job has different requirements, which are listed.

According to CalCareers, there were more than 3,000 open government positions in the state of California as of Tuesday, Aug. 5, including 800-plus job openings in Sacramento County.

These were some of the latest available jobs in Sacramento County on the CalCareers site as of Tuesday:

Assistant bureau chief | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Justice
  • Salary: $14,153 to $17,115 per month
  • Deadline: Thursday, Sep. 4.

Advancing the Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse’s mission under the direction of the investigations assistant chief, the assistant bureau chief plans, organizes, evaluates, leads, and manages criminal sworn activities statewide.

The assistant bureau chief also advises and assists the investigations assistant chief in the development of partnerships with law enforcement entities.

Other duties include coordinating with external and internal partners in connection with legislative or regulatory initiatives and federally mandated outreach and collaboration.

Deputy director of fuel supply analysis | Permanent, full-time

The deputy director is responsible for assisting the director in all aspects, including principal policy-making authority over fuels supply analysis, transition and other administrative responsibilities.

Information technology manager II | Permanent, full-time

Under the administrative direction of the deputy director of infrastructure services, the information technology manager has full management responsibility of approximately 65 technical staff and five managerial staff members.

The IT manager works as the branch chief for the Network Engineering Branch, which is responsible for the performance, security and reliability of the statewide Office of Technology Services Telecommunications network.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

Senior engineer of water resources | Permanent, full-time

Senior transportation engineer | Permanent, full-time

The senior transportation engineer prepares reports, briefing materials and recommendations for senior leadership regarding high-speed rail project coordination and workload planning.

The senior transportation engineer also mediates to resolve disputes over invoices and resolve other interagency agreement-related issues.

Chief of Fiscal Programs Division | Permanent, full-time

Under the general direction of the senior psychiatrist, the staff psychiatrist is a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team providing general population outpatient services to inmates.

This team includes other psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychiatric social workers.

In general, the staff psychiatrist performs psychiatric evaluations’ participates in-treatment planning and case reviews; prescribes medications and provides crisis intervention and psychotherapy.

Other duties including providing consultations and training in treatment approaches to both clinical and custody staff.

Staff services manager III | Permanent, full-time

The staff services manager serves as the program manager of the Violent Crime Information Center, which consists of a wide range of complex and diverse statewide program components that provide critical law enforcement and public services in highly sensitive and visible subject areas.

These components consist of the California Sex Offender Registry and the Investigative Services Program.

The staff services manager oversees and sets policies pertaining to programs that perform legislatively mandated functions relating to the identification and apprehension of people responsible for specific violent crimes and for the disappearance and exploitation of people, especially children.

This position is eligible for telework, and will be required to report to the office as needed.

Capital outlay deputy director | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Conservation Corps
  • Salary: $10,349 to $21,370 per month

The California Conservation Corps is looking for a knowledgeable and solutions-focused professional to serve as the capital outlay deputy director.

Under the direction of the Conservation Corps director, the deputy director is responsible for overseeing all of the department’s Capital Outlay projects — from initial funding requests to final construction.

Duties for this leadership role include working closely with the Department of Finance, Department of General Services and other control agencies to secure funding, manage timelines and keep projects within scope and budget.T This hybrid position is eligible for up to three days of telework per week, with a minimum of two days of in-office work.
