A contractor for the Yuba Water Agency died while working near the New Colgate Powerhouse in Yuba County, the agency said in a Thursday news release.

The contractor was operating construction equipment that fell off an embankment before dying, according to the release. The New Colgate Powerhouse is along the Yuba River, south of Dobbins.

Yuba Water Agency said it is “supporting the investigation” into the incident and will be transparent in the proceedings. Cal-OSHA has been notified of the incident, according to DeDe Cordell, a spokesperson for the Yuba Water Agency.

“We are just devastated and still processing what exactly happened,” Willie Whittlesey, the agency’s general manager, said in the release. “Our hearts are with the family, friends and coworkers who are suffering through unimaginable loss, and with our own staff who supported the accident response today.”

Details about the contractor’s identity were not released on Thursday.
