Sacramento County to close stretch of road for more than 2 days. When and where
Sacramento County will close a mile-long stretch of road for more than two days due to railroad repairs.
The Sacramento County Department of Transportation will shut down part of South Watt Avenue in eastern Sacramento so the California Central Traction Co. can perform “necessary work” at the railroad crossing, county officials said in a Tuesday, Aug. 12, news release.
The closure is part of the South Watt Avenue Improvement Project, which the county considers a “critical step” in improving the South Watt Avenue corridor between Florin Road and Jackson Road.
“Along with an improved railroad crossing, the entire project will also add two additional traffic lanes, sidewalks and bike lanes and replace the Morrison Creek Bridge,” county officials said in the release.
Here’s what to know:
Where is Sacramento County road closure?
The county Transportation Department will close all lanes on a mile-long section of South Watt Avenue from Florin Road to Elder Creek Road.
The site of the closure is near Waste Removal & Recycling Inc. and Super Pallet Recycling Center.
When will the street be closed?
The section of South Watt Avenue will be blocked to traffic from 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, through 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, the county said.
Which detours can I take to avoid repair work?
According to the release, drivers can take a number of detours to get around the road closure.
Northbound and southbound traffic will be directed to Bradshaw Road, the county said.
Drivers traveling northbound can head east on Florin Road, north on Bradshaw Road and west on Elder Creek Road, before traveling back to northbound South Watt Avenue.
Southbound drivers will be detoured east on Elder Creek Road, south on Bradshaw Road, west on Florin Road and back to southbound South Watt Avenue, the county said.
“Access will be provided to those residences and businesses located on South Watt Avenue between Florin Road and Elder Creek Road during the closure, but the roadway will be closed to all other traffic,” county officials said in the release.
