Passenger dies in two-car crash at intersection in northern Sutter County

Roadway fatality

A woman died Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash at an intersection in rural northern Sutter County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash at Live Oak Boulevard and Eager Road happened around 1:50 p.m. when a northbound Hyundai Elantra attempted to turn left onto westbound Eager Road and entered the path of a southbound Honda Accord, the CHP’s Yuba-Sutter office said in a news release. The vehicles collided head-on at the intersection, officers said.

Officers found the Hyundai blocking the northbound lane of Live Oak Boulevard with major front-end damage. The Honda had also sustained major damage and came to rest in a dirt and gravel area on the southwest corner near the Korean Methodist Church.

The passenger in the Hyundai was transported to Adventist Health and Rideout hospital where she died, CHP said. Her name was expected to be released by the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office coroner division once family are notified of her death.

The drivers of both vehicles had minor injuries. The Honda driver was taken to the hospital, and the Hyundai driver declined medical transport.

The CHP said drugs or alcohol were not believed to be factors in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.
