Driver dead, passenger seriously hurt after car, semi collide near Yuba City
A Sacramento woman was killed and her passenger was hospitalized with major injuries after their car collided with a tractor-trailer near Yuba City in Sutter County.
California Highway Patrol officials in Yuba City said the woman, 31, was driving east on Obanion Road and approaching George Washington Boulevard about 11:39 a.m. Tuesday when her car collided with the semi heading south on George Washington.
A witness to the fatal collision said the car’s driver failed to stop at the stop sign for Obanion Road before entering the intersection where her vehicle was struck, said CHP officials.
The driver attempted to stop but the semi-trailer traveling 55 mph and pulling two loaded dump trailers crashed into the driver’s side of the car. The impact pushed the car off of George Washington and into an orchard, killing the driver. Her passenger had major injuries and was ferried via air ambulance to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
CHP officials did not release the woman’s name pending notification of next of kin by Sutter County Coroner’s officials.
The semi driver, 30, was not hurt in the collision and stayed at the scene, said CHP officials.
