Firefighters halted forward progress on a wildfire that sparked Sunday in a wooded area of western Placer County near Auburn.

The Meyer Fire started on the 4000 block of Meyer Lane near Mount Vernon Road just before 2 p.m. The fire is about 3 miles west of North Auburn and 15 miles northeast of Roseville.

Cal Fire Nevada-Yuba-Placer and Placer County firefighters responded and reported a blaze of 2 to 3 acres with a “moderate rate of spread with structure threat.”

By 2:40 p.m., ground crews reported the fire’s forward progress had been halted after aerial support dropped retardant. Spot fires were also reported and contained along Meyer Lane and Hobie Drive, firefighters said.

By 3 p.m., Cal Fire released all aircraft assigned to the fire after personnel “mitigated all spot fires.”

Cal Fire investigators said in a social media post that the fire was caused by mowing.
