Pedestrian fatally struck by car while crossing rural highway near Woodland, CHP said

Roadway fatality

A pedestrian was struck by a car and killed while trying to cross a Yolo County highway near Woodland, said California Highway Patrol officials.

Investigators in the CHP’s Woodland office said the pedestrian appeared to cross Highway 16 west of County Road 98 when they were struck about 7:55 p.m. by a car traveling east on the highway.

The force of the collision sent the eastbound car into the opposite lane where it crashed into a car headed west on Highway 16, said CHP officials. The drivers suffered minor injuries. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Yolo County Coroner’s Office is expected to release the name of the pedestrian, pending notification of next of kin.

CHP officials continue to investigate the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP’s Woodland area office at 530-702-6250.
