Bicyclist fatally struck by car on I-80 freeway onramp; CHP shuts Roseville ramp

A bicyclist was struck and killed on a Roseville freeway onramp Monday, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

The deadly collision between a car and the bicyclist happened about 10:45 a.m. on the westbound Interstate 80 onramp from southbound Riverside Avenue, according to CHP dispatchers.

The bicyclist was found unrepsonsive on the roadway when emergency responders from Roseville police and fire departments along with the CHP arrived several minutes later.

Traffic had begun to back up on the I-80 onramp at Riverside Avenue before California Highway Patrol officers closed the ramp just before 11 a.m. The onramp reopened to traffic at 12:40 p.m., according to the CHP’s incident log.

Placer County coroner’s officials were called to the scene. No further information about the bicyclist was immediately known. Coroner’s officials will identify the crash victim once next of kin are notified.
