The Athletics’ first season based in West Sacramento is officially a losing campaign, as Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to the Pirates in Pittsburgh marked their 82nd loss of 2025.

Formally eliminated from playoff contention earlier in the week and with seven games left to play, the team can no longer reach .500. The A’s came out of July’s All-Star break on a hot streak but could not recover from a stretch in which they lost 20 of 21 games from late April to early May.

The team is hosting games at Sutter Health Park, home of the minor-league Sacramento River Cats, during a temporary stay set to last through at least 2027 while the franchise relocates from Oakland to Las Vegas.

After Sunday’s series finale in Pittsburgh, the A’s will return to Sutter Health Park for a pair of three-game series: against the Houston Astros next Tuesday through Thursday; and against the Kansas City Royals next Friday through Sunday.

Though the A’s won’t be in the playoffs, the Astros series could provide an opportunity to play spoiler. The Astros (84-70) entered Saturday one game behind the Seattle Mariners (85-69) for the AL West division lead.

The A’s are 6-4 vs. the Astros so far this season, including a four-game sweep in late July.

Despite the losing record overall, the A’s improved upon their 69-93 finish in their final season at the Oakland Coliseum last year.
