7 injured, 1 airlifted after head-on crash in rural Sacramento County
Seven people were injured and taken to hospitals after a head-on crash Saturday morning in rural, southeast Sacramento County, authorities said.
A pickup truck and a sedan collided head-on shortly after 10 a.m. near Claypit and Ione roads, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District spokesperson Capt. Mark Nunez said.
Firefighters found both vehicles with “significant front-end damage,” Nunez said.
Seven total occupants of the vehicles were taken to local hospitals, one of them by air ambulance due to the severity of their injuries, Nunez said.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
The CHP’s East Sacramento office in a social media post said Ione Road is closed at Pony Brown Road due to the collision.
