Nevada County collision kills pedestrian on Highway 49 in Grass Valley
A vehicle struck and killed a man late Tuesday on Highway 49 in Grass Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 9:30 p.m. collision happened on southbound Highway 49 just south of Bethel Church Way, said officials at the CHP’s Grass Valley office. The CHP said a motorist trailing another vehicle on the highway saw the vehicle ahead suddenly swerve before the vehicle struck the pedestrian. It was not known why the pedestrian was walking along the highway.
The drivers of both vehicles stopped, called 911 and waited for emergency personnel, who pronounced the man dead at the scene. The Nevada County Coroner’s Office is expected to identify the person after notifying next of kin.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to factor in the fatal collision, CHP officials said.
The collision closed the section of Highway 49 at Bethel Church Way for about an hour before the highway was reopened about 10:30 p.m.
