Feather Alert canceled after missing Native American teen is found safe

Missing person found

A teenage girl reported missing Friday evening in Placer County was found Saturday, after the California Highway Patrol issued a Feather Alert, authorities said.

The girl, 15, had last been seen in the Roseville area around 6 p.m. The CHP in an update just after 2 p.m. said she had been located. A Placer County spokesperson said she was found safely. The Feather Alert was issued on behalf of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

The Feather Alert is the emergency notification system for missing Native Americans in California. Similar to the Amber Alert, a Feather Alert is sent out when a Native person goes missing under “unexplainable or suspicious circumstances,” according to CHP.

The Feather Alert was created to reduce the number of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People cases in California. Currently, California has more than 150 documented cases, ranking it fifth in the nation for unsolved disappearances and deaths.
