Another scorcher

The Sacramento River Cats continue a week-long home stand tonight with the first pitch scheduled to be hurled at 7:05 p.m. Let’s hope the home team’s bats are as hot as the weather. Another day of scorching temperatures is forecast with a high of 104 degrees predicted for the Sacramento region.

Cheers to Sacramento Cocktail Week!

A whole week of fabulous cocktailery is underway, with the libations flowing from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bottle & Barlow, 1120 R St. A makeshift casino will feature poker tables, roulette and other games in addition to a martini bar.

Two pop-up events will also flesh out the day. A “Revolution of Rum” comes to Red Rabbit Kitchen & Bar, 2718 J St., at 3 p.m. Then, seven bartenders will compete to sling the best old fashioned at 7 p.m. at Block Butcher Bar, 1050 20th St.

Sacramento City school district to help parents enroll children

The Sacramento City Unified School District has scheduled school enrollment sessions at locations around the region over four days this week to help parents enroll children who are new to a campus and are entering kindergarten to 12th grade.

Today and Tuesday, enrollment center staff will help families at Sequoia Elementary School, 3333 Rosemont Drive in Sacramento, between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the staff will be at John Bidwell Elementary, 1730 65th Ave., in south Sacramento, also from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Parents can also enroll students at the district’s Enrollment Center, 5601 47th Ave., Sacramento.

Homicide suspect scheduled in court

Scott Dallas Boyer, 41, was arrested Friday on suspicion of murder after Sacramento police discovered a woman’s body buried under dirt and debris in the backyard of a South Natomas home. He is scheduled be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. in Sacramento Superior Court.
