Damaged utility pole knocks out power for 10k in Arden Arcade area, SMUD say

More than 10,000 homes and business briefly lost power Saturday after an outage struck the Arden Arcade area, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District reported.

The outage began around 11:45 a.m. and was caused by damaged equipment, according to SMUD. A utility spokesperson said a “pole is down” and that “troubleshooters are on their way,” but offered no additional details.

As of 12:30 p.m., an estimated 10,287 customers were knocked offline, though SMUD reported electricity for some customers had been restored by 12:45 p.m.

Dispatch logs from the Sacramento Fire Department showed a high-voltage line had separated from the pole on the 2400 block of Ethan Way just inside the Sacramento city limits in Swanston Estates.

No injuries have been reported.
