Knife-wielding man shot dead by Placer deputy at Dry Creek Park in west Roseville

A sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man who charged at deputies with a knife at a west Roseville park Tuesday night, said Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s officials are investigating the incident at Dry Creek Community Park in west Roseville. Deputies were sent to the park in the 9200 block of Walerga Road about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on a report of suspicious circumstances, where they found a man carrying a large knife, sheriff’s officials said in a statement.

Sheriff’s officials said deputies tried to deescalate the incident before the man ran toward them with the knife. One of the deputies opened fire killing the man. The man’s name will be released by Placer County coroner’s officials once next of kin have been notified.

Placer County Sheriff’s Office and Placer County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident in accordance with county deputy-involved shooting protocols, sheriff’s officials said.
