Elk Grove police add new charge after woman, 80, dies from October hit-and-run
An 80-year-old woman struck and seriously injured in an October hit-and-run at an Elk Grove intersection has died and police are now seeking additional vehicular manslaughter charges against the driver in the fatal collision.
Ngub Chan died Nov. 21 at an area hospital, Elk Grove Police Department said in a statement Wednesday, weeks after she was struck 4:40 p.m. Oct. 10, as she crossed Splendor Lane at Lilypad Lane in the city’s Laguna Ridge neighborhood. The driver fled the crash without checking on the woman or reporting the collision. Chan sustained multiple broken bones in the crash, said Elk Grove police.
Surveillance video helped investigators track down the 2007 Chevrolet Impala believed involved in the collision. Traffic detectives later contacted the car’s owner driving in Sacramento but did not arrest him. After further investigation, Elk Grove police identified the owner as the one behind the wheel when Chan was fatally struck. He is identified only as a 57-year-old Elk Grove man.
Investigators handed felony hit-and-run charges to Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office seeking a warrant for the man’s arrest.
With Chan’s death, Elk Grove detectives have asked District Attorney’s prosecutors to add the vehicular manslaughter charge as they continue to investigate the incident, department officials said Wednesday.
