The third of the three children killed in the mass shooting at a Stockton birthday party is being remembered in her family’s GoFundMe campaign as a “curious and gentle soul who touched many hearts.”

Journey Rose Reotutar Guerrero, 8, of Stockton, is survived by an 18-year-old sister; two brothers, ages 15 and 10; and her parents.

Journey was celebrating her cousin’s second birthday at the Stockton banquet hall. She and three others, 8-year-old Maya Lupian, 14-year-old Amari Peterson of Modesto and 21-year-old Susano Archuleta were killed. Thirteen others were wounded including Archuleta’s younger sister, who survived a gunshot wound to the head, family members told the Los Angeles Times.

Journey was a third-grader at Commodore Stockton Skills School who loved school and couldn’t wait to share what she learned there, her mother, Jackie Reotutar, said. Kind and helpful, she had many friends at Commodore and loved art, crafting, baking, and gymnastics. She loved trivia and solving math games, her mother said.

“Journey was growing up beautifully and should have had a long life where she could learn and play as much as she pleased,” Reotutar said. “She had so many dreams and goals she wanted to reach.”

She wanted to be a cheerleader when she entered high school and continue her love for gymnastics. She wanted to be a doctor when she grew up.

“Journey was always an inspiration for her family to do their best. She would always offer a helping hand to anyone she knew,” her mother wrote. “She wanted to help people.”

As of Wednesday morning, the family had raised a fifth of their $90,000 goal via the online fundraising site.
