Sacramento County is opening its weather respite center at Warren E. Thorton Youth Center in Rosemont on Thursday as temperatures drop to “overnight lows,” according to a county spokesperson.

With the weather respite opening at 2 p.m. and continuing operations until December 15, the center will provide cots, showers and meals to those who enter. Warren E. Thorton Youth Center is at 400 Branch Center Rd. The center, which only accepts residents 18-years-old and older, has restrooms, spots to charge electronics and case management services.

Warren E. Thorton Youth Center can hold up to 90 people and is a 24-hour center, according to 211 Sacramento.

Sacramento’s forecast will include dense fog with temperatures around at 46 to 42 Fahrenheit, according to the National Weather Service.

A QR code on the flyer provides residents with a list of respite centers in Sacramento County, according to the Inclement Weather Notice. To arrive at the warming center, 211 Sacramento recommends residents take the SacRT 72 bus.

Bus route and pets

The SacRT 72 bus begins its route at Mather LRS and Bay 2 stop in Rancho Cordova with the bus arriving in Rosemont at the Watt/Manlove/LRS and Bay 2 stop in Rosemont, according to SacRT. With 32 stops across Sacramento County, residents can get updates on the 72 bus using the SacRT Transit app, or by visiting transitapp.com.

Pets will also be allowed, with the center accepting one per person, as long as they are crated or leashed, Janna Haynes, a county spokesperson wrote.
