Body of Roseville man who went missing found in Folsom’s Lake Natoma, family says

Police tape at crime scene

Authorities recovered a man’s body Monday from the waters of Lake Natoma in Folsom, one day after a Roseville man’s personal belongings were discovered along the American River Bike Trail.

California State Parks said the man was located in the water at about 11:20 a.m. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office took custody of the body for identification and to determine the cause of death, rangers said.

The belongings were found Sunday morning near the shoreline of Lake Natoma, just downstream from Black Miners Bar, prompting a search involving State Parks rangers, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office dive team, Folsom police and Folsom firefighters.

Family members had posted publicly over the weekend that the man, who had just turned 38, was missing after riding home on the trails in the area late Friday night. His bike and phone were later found near Black Miners Bar, they said.

On Monday, family members identified the man on social media as Chris Cary Jr. Authorities had not formally released the man’s identity as of Monday evening.

“They have pulled my son from Lake Natomas,” his father, Chris Cary Sr., wrote. “The most beautiful thing I ever made is gone.”

The coroner’s office is expected to formally identify the man and release additional details in the coming days.
