Sacramento County has opened reservations for plots at a new community garden at Gibson Ranch Regional Park.

The garden has 48 standard, 20-foot by 20-foot plots, and space for 12 raised accessible beds. County residents will receive priority, but non-residents will be offered plots if space allows.

Pesticides, herbicides and synthetic fertilizers will not be permitted. There will be a “food forest” nearby with fruit trees and native edible plants available to the community, the county said in its announcement.

“We’re excited to welcome residents to this beautiful new space where neighbors can learn, grow and cultivate not just plants, but community,” Liz Bellas, director of Sacramento County Regional Parks, said in a news release.

More information and registration is available through the county’s website at regionalparks.saccounty.gov.
