Pedestrian dies at hospital after Fruitridge Road collision, police say

Pedestrian fatality

A pedestrian died at a hospital Tuesday evening after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Fruitridge Road near 49th Street, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Sacramento Fire Department crews responded around 7:45 p.m. and found the injured man in the roadway. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died, police said. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to be factors in the collision.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity after notifying his family. The victim is believed to be the first pedestrian fatality in the city and county of 2026. Last year, according to the Coroner’s Office, 60 pedestrians were killed in vehicle incidents across the county.

Police urged anyone with information about the incident to call dispatchers at 916-808-5471.
