Missing Roseville teen reunited with family after Feather Alert in Sacramento region

Missing person found

A 17-year-old whose disappearance in Roseville triggered a Feather Alert for the capital region earlier this month has been located and is with family, authorities said Tuesday.

The teen was removed from the California Highway Patrol’s Feather Alert list Tuesday morning after her family contacted law enforcement and reported they were with her, a spokesperson for the Roseville Police Department said.

The Feather Alert had been issued Jan. 7 after the girl was reported missing from the Roseville area on New Year’s Eve. The alert covered Placer, Sacramento, El Dorado, Sutter and Yuba counties.

Police had said the teen was considered at risk because of her age. No further details about where she was found or the circumstances surrounding her disappearance were released.

The Feather Alert is the emergency notification system for missing Native Americans in California. Similar to the Amber Alert, a Feather Alert is sent out when a Native person goes missing under “unexplainable or suspicious circumstances,” according to CHP.

The Feather Alert was created to reduce the number of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People cases in California. Currently, California has more than 150 documented cases, ranking it fifth in the nation for unsolved disappearances and deaths.
