Sacramento fire investigators were working to determine the cause of an early-morning house fire Monday in the Oak Park neighborhood that left one resident dead.

Firefighters were dispatched about 2:50 a.m. to a home in the 2900 block of 43rd Street, where several residents were able to escape the blaze, said Capt. Justin Sylvia, a Sacramento Fire Department spokesperson.

Fire crews later discovered one person dead inside the home. The victim’s identity had not been released as of Tuesday, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

A firefighter also suffered a calf injury while battling the blaze and was treated at the scene.
