A man protesting outside a U.S. Customs and Immigration facility in Sacramento was assaulted Saturday, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Sacramento Police Department officers responded to reports of an assault Saturday just before 3:30 p.m. in the 500 block of N Street, a spokesperson for the department said. The victim complained of pain, and the suspects had fled from the scene prior to officers arriving.

The victim, identified as Scott Stauffer by KCRA, told the outlet he was protesting with an anti-ICE flag when a group of counter-protesters with flags supporting the Trump administration approached him.

“Hit me with their truck, bashed my windows, got into a fight, got bear-maced,” Stauffer told KCRA.

Police said they were investigating the incident.
