1 killed in collision on Highway 70 in Sutter County; woman, baby in hospital

Roadway fatality

A Glenn County man was killed in a wrong-way collision Tuesday night on Highway 70 in Sutter County that sent a female driver and an infant to a hospital, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The crash happened about 7:30 p.m. on southbound Highway 70 just south of Striplin Road. Fog was present in the area at the time, CHP officials said.

Officers from the CHP’s Yuba-Sutter office said the driver of a white Volkswagen Tiguan sport utility vehicle was traveling north in the southbound lanes when it collided with a southbound Toyota Corolla sedan. The male driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sutter County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday identified the man as Miguel Sigala-Flores, 23, of Willows.

The Volkswagen’s driver suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital along with her infant passenger. The child’s condition was not known, CHP officials said.

Yuba-Sutter CHP dispatchers had received a call of a wrong-way driver on the highway matching the VW’s description, CHP officials said, but the crash remains under investigation.
