A body found inside a car pulled Sunday from the Sacramento River may be connected to a missing person from Stockton, West Sacramento police said Monday.

The car was recovered Sunday on the West Sacramento side of the river, north of The Barn in the 900 block of Riverfront Street, according to the West Sacramento Police Department.

Police said the vehicle was reported to have gone into the river Jan. 8. Marine units were unable to locate the submerged car during an initial search but spotted it Sunday. A body was found inside.

The person’s identity had not been determined Monday. Authorities believed the car was “associated with a missing person out of Stockton,” police spokesperson Taylor Nelson said.

The Yolo County Coroner’s Office was working with the Stockton Police Department to confirm the person’s identity, Nelson said.
