Woman’s body recovered after crash into Sacramento River near Walnut Grove

Roadway fatality

A woman died early Friday after her vehicle ran off an embankment near Walnut Grove and plunged into the Sacramento River, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 7:36 a.m. on Twin Cities Road, where the vehicle was traveling west at an unknown speed, according to the California Highway Patrol’s South Sacramento office.

CHP said the driver failed to stop at a stop sign, drove through the intersection and went over the embankment. The woman was ejected from the vehicle and landed in the river.

Authorities later recovered her body from the water, officials said.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will identify the woman after notifying next of kin.
