California is hiring for state jobs with remote work.

Though Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered state workers to return to the office in 2025, some union contracts allow many employees to keep working remotely through June.

From insurance funds to tax administration, several California state departments were hiring for positions that offer the option of working from home as of Thursday, Feb. 5.

State jobs are known for offering competitive benefits — including access to the nation’s largest public pension system.

Many positions also have specific qualification requirements, which are linked below.

Which California state jobs offer remote, hybrid work?

Administrative coordinator | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Judicial Council of California
  • Location: San Francisco County
  • Salary: $5,933 to $8,305 per month
  • Application due date: Thursday, Feb. 12

The administrative coordinator helps keep several court-related programs running smoothly.

Duties include handling paperwork for audits, solving issues with computer systems and making sure purchases and expenses are processed correctly.

A hybrid schedule is available for this position.

Associate accounting analyst | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Tax and Fee Administration
  • Location: Sacramento County
  • Salary: $6,330 to $7,929 per month
  • Application due date: Wednesday, Feb. 11

The associate accounting analyst handles accounting work, including setting up, reviewing and analyzing financial records.

The role also involves regular communication with other field offices and several state agencies.

“This position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California,” CalCareers said.

Customer contact center analyst | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Public Employees Retirement System
  • Location: Sacramento County
  • Salary: $3,861 to $6,276 per month
  • Application due date: Saturday, Feb. 14

The customer contact center analyst helps support customer service goals by analyzing information and providing guidance to improve how customers are assisted.

The position is mostly remote, with occasional in-office work required, according to CalCareers.

Data analyst | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Judicial Council of California
  • Location: San Francisco County
  • Salary: $7,513 to $11,270 per month
  • Application due date: Saturday, Feb. 21

The data analyst studies and verifies information for a justice system database, making sure data requirements are accurate and clearly defined.

The role includes reviewing laws and identifying the data needed to meet legal requirements and court priorities.

Director of talent | Permanent, full time

  • Department: State Compensation Insurance Fund
  • Location: Solano County
  • Salary: $10,184 to $11,570 per month

The director of talent works to hire and keep employees.

The role focuses on building a strong workplace culture, making sure human resources programs run smoothly and helping employees grow and succeed.

This is a teleworking position.

HR business partner manager | Permanent, full time

  • Department: State Compensation Insurance Fund
  • Location: Los Angeles County
  • Salary: $7,872 to $9,781 per month
  • Application due date: Monday, Feb. 16

The business partner manager works with company leaders to support business goals and shape a positive workplace culture.

The role focuses on helping employees succeed through hiring, training and performance programs, while also improving engagement and inclusion.

  • Salary: $6,513 to $10,537 per month

This position will create and manage marketing campaigns to reach the right audience and improve engagement.

Duties include pitching marketing ideas and making sure campaigns run smoothly and effectively.

Psychiatrist supervisor | Permanent, full time

  • Department: State Hospitals
  • Location: Fresno County
  • Salary: $22,143 to $31,458 per month

The psychiatrist supervisor oversees doctors and other medical professionals who provide psychiatric care, while also delivering mental health services.

“This position is mainly remote,” CalCareers said.

Senior internal auditor | Permanent, full time

  • Salary: $4,935 to $8,740 per month

This position leads audits to review and test technology-related controls, making sure systems, operations and financial processes are secure and working properly.
