Rancho Cordova appoints new chief of police. Here’s who will be in charge
Rancho Cordova has appointed a new chief of police.
Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Shaun Hampton will take over for current police Chief Matthew Tamayo, who will retire in March, according to a news release from the city of Rancho Cordova. The city contracts with the Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement services.
In his new role, Hampton will also serve as commander of the Sheriff’s Office East Division from the Kilgore Station, according to the release.
“I am honored to once again be serving the Rancho Cordova community and to continue fostering community relationships and partnerships to keep all residents safe,” Hampton said in the announcement.
According to the release, Hampton has worked with the Sheriff’s Office for over 25 years and has also worked in corrections; the agency’s SWAT team, know as Special Enforcement Detail; and investigations, as well as a patrol sergeant and patrol lieutenant with the Rancho Cordova Police Department.
“His previous experience at RCPD, extensive law enforcement background, and commitment to the City of Rancho Cordova make him an outstanding choice to serve our community,” said Micah Runner, city manager, in the announcement.
