Two killed, El Dorado man seriously injured in head-on crash on Highway 49
Two people were killed and an El Dorado man was seriously injured in a head-on crash Monday evening on Highway 49, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers from CHP’s Placerville office responded about 5:07 p.m. to a report of a head-on collision on Highway 49 north of Dolomite Drive. When officers arrived, they found two vehicles involved in a crash, with one vehicle on fire.
Two occupants of a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck were pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said. Their identities were being withheld pending positive identification by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office’s coroner unit and notification of next of kin.
The driver of a Ford Edge, identified as a 34-year-old El Dorado resident, suffered major injuries. He was transported to Marshall Medical Center in Placerville for treatment, the CHP said.
The cause of the collision remained under active investigation.
