Sacramento-area park district sued after teen golf cart crash at Rosemont course
A parent is suing the Cordova Recreation & Park District after his son was injured while driving a golf cart.
The suit, filed March 18 in Sacramento Superior Court, alleged staff at Cordova Golf Course, a facility operated by the parks district in Rosemont, allowed a 16-year-old to drive a golf cart Aug. 24.
On that day, the teen paid to play 18 holes of golf with his Youth on Course membership, the suit alleged. Staff did not ask for proof of his age, according to the filing.
The golf course’s policy requires drivers to be at least 18 years old, according to its rules, posted online.
While the teen was driving, the golf cart flipped, causing severe injuries that could be permanent, the suit alleged.
The Cordova Recreation & Park District declined to comment, said Andrea White, the district’s human resources manager.
The district is funded primarily through property assessments and fees, according to its website. It also receives revenue from registration fees, rental fees and grants.
The suit seeks general damages, as well as medical and incidental expenses.
