Sacramento-area fire crews rescue elderly woman trapped in burning Vineyard home

An elderly woman rescued from her burning south Sacramento home early Wednesday was taken to a hospital, according to Metro Fire officials.

The woman’s condition was not known Wednesday. The fire had spread throughout the home in the 8900 block of Leland Avenue in unincorporated Vineyard when crews from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, Sacramento Fire Department and Cosumnes Community Service District Fire Department arrived just after 1:30 a.m.

Smoke alarms inside the home alerted residents, but crews learned an elderly woman was still inside a rear room, Metro Fire spokesperson Capt. Mark Nunez said in a statement. Residents attempted to evacuate her before meeting firefighters outside, Nunez said.

Firefighters reached the woman inside the home and removed her. She was taken to a hospital for treatment, Nunez said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
