Pedestrian killed while lying in roadway on Florin Road in south Sacramento
A pedestrian died Friday after being struck by a vehicle on Florin Road in south Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported around 6:08 a.m. on westbound Florin Road near Fletcher Farms Drive just east of French Road, according to Officer Michael Harper, a spokesperson for the CHP’s South Sacramento office.
Officers arrived several minutes later and found the pedestrian lying in the roadway. Investigators said a male driver traveling westbound “suddenly saw what appeared to be a pedestrian laying in the roadway” and braked but was unable to stop before hitting the person.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters, the CHP said.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to Harper, who added that alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will identify the pedestrian after next of kin are notified.
