63-year-old killed while lying in roadway on Florin in south Sacramento identified

Pedestrian fatality

A 63-year-old Sacramento woman died Friday after being struck by a vehicle on Florin Road in south Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Maria Guerrero Roa.

The crash was reported around 6:08 a.m. on westbound Florin Road near Fletcher Farms Drive, just east of French Road, according to Officer Michael Harper, a spokesperson for the CHP’s South Sacramento office.

Officers arrived several minutes later and found Guerrero Roa lying in the roadway. Investigators said a male driver traveling westbound “suddenly saw what appeared to be a pedestrian laying in the roadway” and braked but was unable to stop before hitting her.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters, the CHP said.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and alcohol was not a factor in the collision, Harper said.
