Sacramento woman killed in motorcycle crash on Interstate 80 at Richards in Davis

Roadway fatality

A 40-year-old Sacramento woman was killed Thursday when the motorcycle she was riding on crashed into the back of a big rig on Interstate 80 in Davis, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. near Richards Boulevard, according to the CHP online activity log.

The CHP’s Woodland office said the driver of the motorcycle was unable to slow down before reaching slower traffic ahead, causing the motorcycle to rear-end the truck. The woman, who was riding as a passenger, was ejected and struck by a semi-truck in the next lane, CHP said.

The woman’s identity was expected to be released by the Yolo County Coroner’s Office once next of kin are notified of her death.

The motorcycle, pickup truck and semi-truck drivers were not injured, according to CHP.

In 2023, Davis had 171 traffic incidents spark an injury or fatality, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety, including five that involved motorcycles.

Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash but the CHP said it was continuing its investigation.
