70-year-old Sacramento woman dies after being hit by her own vehicle, police say

Pedestrian fatality

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified a 70-year-old pedestrian who died Friday after being hit by her own vehicle in Sacramento.

Sue Ann Rooney was hit while in a driveway on Sandburg Drive in Sacramento’s River Park neighborhood, according to information from Sacramento Police Department spokesperson Officer Allison Smith and the Coroner’s Office. Rooney got out of the vehicle shortly before 7:30 p.m. without putting it in park, and it rolled backward and hit her, Smith said.

After the vehicle rolled backwards, Smith said, it collided a parked vehicle across the street. Rooney, a Sacramento resident, was then taken to the hospital where she died, according to Smith.

At least 20 people have died in 18 separate Sacramento vehicle incidents so far this year, according to Sacramento Bee reporting.
