2 dead in 4-vehicle crash involving big rig on Highway 99 in Lodi, CHP says

Roadway fatality

Two people died Tuesday in a crash involving a big rig truck and three other vehicles on Highway 99 in south Lodi, officials said.

About 12:20 p.m., the crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol’s Stockton office on northbound Highway 99 near the Harney Lane off-ramp, according to online CHP activity logs.

One person fled the scene, but has been detained, CHP spokesperson Officer Itzel Aguilar said. Others involved in the crash were taken to nearby hospitals for care, Aguilar said.

It was not immediately clear whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, Aguilar said.

All three lanes of northbound Highway 99 in the area and the Harney Lane off-ramp were closed for about three hours after the incident, according to a social media post from Caltrans.

The left two lanes opened around 3:20 p.m., though the far right lane and the off-ramp were still closed as of 5:15 p.m. The CHP and Caltrans did not have an estimated time for the lane and off-ramp to reopen.
